Somewhere online I found a data file consisting of 290 000 FM players.
Well, what is more natural than to deep dive into the numbers to try to find something interesting?
For all you youth managers out there, here are the attributes you don't want a high score on if you plan to let your guys develop to the next wonderkids of the world. The higher these attributes are, the less of the CA points can be spent on other attributes.
1: Natural Fitness
From what I've found, Natural Fitness in FML doesn't really help much with anything except probably postponing the player aging a bit. However, it eats up a decent amount of points that could otherwise go to more vital attributes. Next time you get a new graduate, you should pray to the FML-lord that he gives you a 5* potential player with Natural Fitness 1.
2: Two-footedness
I'll admit I haven't checked the impact of two-footedness in the ME yet (something for an upcoming post I guess). But what I can tell you is that two-footedness takes points from other attributes at the same rate as Natural Fitness.
3: Flair
As I've mentioned before, Flair does not help a player's team score more goals, neither will it help the team concede less. Flair does improve the average rating, but so does high jumping, and I know which one I would prefer. ;)
4, 5 and 6: Aggression, Workrate & Teamwork
The usefulness of these attributes depends a bit on the position your players play on the field. But for an attacking player, I'm quite certain I could do without these attributes and rather see the physical attributes sky rocket to fulfill the Potential Ability available.
On the other end of the scale, here are the main attributes that impact the CA in a positive way.
For strikers:
Pace, Off the Ball, Decisions, Crossing, Dribbling, First Touch, Heading, Acceleration, Anticipation
And for DCs:
Tackling, Marking, Positioning, Decisions, Heading, Anticipation, Jumping, First Touch, Passing
I'm sure someone somewhere must have blogged/forum posted the same results within the FM community. If you know where to find more information, feel free to post some links down in the comment field! :)

Have been messing about on Hill Climb 2 recently which is very addictive,
and uploading this in order to link to Reddit.

Genius.
ReplyDeleteTwo footedness is a HUGE drain on CA, or at least I think it is with the player model we have on FML. If it's the same as FM08 which I believe it is, it's the single biggest drain of CA.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually 'worth' a couple of technical attributes in several areas too. A dual foo
ted player with say 13 passing may actually be better at passing than a massively single footed player who has 16 passing. This is because the dual footed player is more likely to be able to complete passes in more situations because he can pass with either foot.
The same applies to finishing etc.
It's massively overlooked by pretty much everyone on FML from what I can tell. I'm not sure how much it difference it makes in this ME, but on the old ME it was a gigantic advantage to have a proper 2 footed player.

It's an old thread but i'm almost certain the FML player development model is based on this due to the date it was released etc.
Just to add, you need a good few hours to read that thread ! I think you will like it though, there's some stuff on either footed players further in.
ReplyDeleteOh, and if it's any use I *think* I can export some of the FM10 database into csv. If you can pull your data to include player names I reckon I could do a vlookup for the FM10 database vs your data and we could get some PA/CA data into the mix.
Thanks T-Bag. An interesting read. I've only skimmed through first half of the first page so far, but I realize I definitely overlooked one variable - the amount of different positions on the pitch.
ReplyDeleteLet's see if I can include some information on the positions later today.
Actually the numbers I used included CA. I'm not sure how it pans out though. Will a player with two-footedness have lower CA or will he have less total points available for other attributes? I think the latter one, and that's also what I used as an assumption for this post.
Would be nice to include PA in the mix though. Looking forward to read the whole thread when I find the time!
Had a quick look re positions and it places itself somewhere in the pack of Aggression, Workrate & Teamwork. So not the largest drain, but still a decent drain!
ReplyDeleteSomething you have to remember is that certain attributes are free (don't cost CA) for certain positions.
ReplyDeleteSo for example, crossing for an MC is free, it doesn't use any CA. But crossing for an ML/MR is not free. So if you have a MC who can also play ML then he could have identical attributes to someone who can only play MC but he would be using more CA just by being able to play ML/MR.
It's not just the position that uses up CA, it's the effect of other attributes no longer being free.
Top! Of course I didn't think of that!
ReplyDeleteEither footed players were an incredible bargain until I think it was 1.5 (or 1.4).
ReplyDeleteQuite simply, the footedness was not draining CA as it should have which explains why for a time the attributes were higher in FML than in FM for a lot of players.
Regarding you initial post, as alluded by T-BAG the more positions a player is able to play the more weighted attributes he will have.
So the incredible 5* potential youngster able to play 9 positions on the pitch will see his attributes noticeably lower at full CA than one playing only 2 positions.
